Can I apply for ESTA without having made specific travel plans to the US?

Travelers can apply for ESTA without having made specific plans regarding the date of their trip.

Due to the fact that the electronic travel authorization is issued for a period of two consecutive years, it is not expected of applicants to know the places they will visit during this time.

If, however, you have made specific plans and wish to visit multiple locations, information about each one of them is not required. You may enter only the first place to be visited.

If the direction is unknown, a hotel name or location would suffice.
In case you are in transit, please make sure to select the “Yes” option regarding the travel ESTA application question.
