Check ESTA Status

The ESTA visa is an electronic travel authorization required by the United States to enter the country. Citizens from one of the 39 countries in the Visa Waiver Program must obtain an ESTA to travel to the U.S. Once you’ve applied for this authorization you can check the ESTA status before your trip. Read further to learn more information about the ESTA status check and the ESTA renewal options.

Why do you have to check the ESTA status?

As a citizen of one of the 39 countries in the Visa Waiver Program, you must have a valid ESTA upon arrival in the United States. You need to check your ESTA status to know if your ESTA is valid prior to your trip. Without an ESTA you will not be allowed entry to the U.S.  It is important that all ESTA holders are aware of their ESTA expiration date. If you aren’t sure when your ESTA expires, we recommend you check your status and the date the ESTA was first approved. Your ESTA is valid for 2 years from the date it was first approved.

It is also essential that if you travel to the United States, you do not overstay the maximum amount of days granted. An individual with an overstayed visa waiver program might have issues returning to the country. If you have a valid ESTA do not overstay as you might not get an ESTA renewed in the future. Travelers who cannot obtain an ESTA must apply for a US tourist visa at an embassy or consulate.
